Where I'm From

I am from emeralds and rubies

From taurus and cancer

I am from my Norwegian mother and Italian father

From exploration and discoveries

I am from sunset kisses

Created by palms of love

I am from the religion of honesty and enlightenment

From the belief that kindness is recycled in the universe

I am from forgive and move forward

Guided by good intentions

I am from objectives and crowded hallways

From extra time in classrooms I’ve outgrown

I am from speeding cars and loud conversations

From tension to silent apologies

I am from the harmony of waves

From infatuation with the unknown depths and their hidden creators

I am from the white grains of sand and beaming sunrays

From the shade and shelter of palm trees

I have spent my life growing from the roots of my ancestors in the soil they made fertile

My roots provide stability

Each leaf holds a lesson from my journey

But I focus on each new blooming bud

Each season I am different

But my roots always ground me
